Our learning has really taken off this week!  I am almost finished with my testing and your child has worked so hard working independently and writing great responses in their reading journals.  Ask your child what they learned about text-to-self connections!  You can even ask them about text-to-text connections!

Our math groups are underway! This week we worked on ways to write a number.  Ask your child what was their favorite math game was this week!

Reading Workshop- We will focus on character traits this week.  We will focus on describing the characters by how they act, feel and what they say through our text.

Writing Workshop-  We are still working on our first piece of writing!  We are revising our words to see how we can make our writing "even better!"  I found some fancy gel pens they can use to revise and I am amazed how they are rereading their writing and making meaningful changes.  They are also staying on topic while they revise which is hard at this time of year!

Science/ Social Studies-  This week we will focus on properties of matter.  We have some demonstrations this week involving pennies, quarters, water,  and even gummy bears!

Math-   We will begin to wrap up our  unit on place value using two digit numbers.    On Tuesday, we will will take our place value assessment. Your child will not to study for this.  It just covers the skills and concepts we have learned in class.  If you want to review the ways to write a number, use these examples with different numbers at home:

Standard form: 36
Word Form: thirty-six
Expanded Form:  30+6 =36
Base ten blocks :  III  xxxxxx

Class Celebrations:    Stella lost a tooth this week and we were able to add her  name to our tooth graph! Harper celebrated his birthday this week!  We hope he had a very Happy Birthday!  Stella is our Star of the Week!   We can't wait to share her poster on Monday!

Have a super weekend!

Hi!  What a busy week of learning for us!  It was so good to see many of you on Tuesday night!  I  enjoyed sharing our class routines and expectations with you. If you ever have any questions, please feel free to e-mail me and I will be happy to answer them.

This is what our learning will look like next week:

Reading Workshop-This week we will continue to focus on selecting good books for us to read.  We will focus on I Pick  books  that match our reading levels and interests.  We will also focus on building stamina as readers and using our reading time to help us grow as readers. This part is very important for us to develop as readers.  Your child will have to use their reading time wisely and stay on task.  I will begin pulling students to read with me and your child will be accountable for using their reading time wisely.

Writing Workshop-   We will begin our writer's workshop by selecting one small moment to write about this week.  We will focus on what good writer's do as they begin writing a new piece. We are stills setting the foundations for our reading and writing workshops. Our "jobs" are simple at this stage since we are focusing on the routines and expectations as we learn to work independently.

Science/ Social Studies-  We will continue to focus on " Thinking Like a Scientist" and we will begin our unit on Properties.  We will spend time sorting various objects based on their properties.

Math-   We will continue our  unit on place value.  We will focus on numbers to 100 and building numbers using tens and ones.  We will also focus on using the hundreds chart this week as we look at numbers and patterns.

Class Celebrations:    We would like to wish Christian  Happy Birthday!  He celebrates his birthday over the weekend!  We earned 10 compliments this week and were able to celebrate with Game Day!

Have a super weekend!  I look forward to seeing your child on Tuesday!
