What a crazy week we had!  Our schedule changed so that 4th grade could practice for their Groovy-O-Rama but we handled it well and were able to stay focused. We were a little excited about the Thanksgiving Luncheon! Thanks to all of you who were able to join us for that special meal.

Reading Workshop-  We will continue our unit on nonfiction.  When we return from the holiday, we will focus on main idea and details.   We will also add in the topic as the week comes to an end.

Writing Workshop-  We wrote our ending to Turkey Trouble. Ask your child how they ended their stories.  Some endings included a turkey going to Schlitterbahn, one turkey disguised himself as an astronaut, and another disguised himself as Santa Claus to avoid getting eaten!   We will focus on different types of nonfiction writing such as flyers, pamphlets, and journal writing when we return.

Science/ Social Studies-   We will continue our unit on force and motion.   We will have stations with "Motion Impossible" and finally get around to building our roller coasters.

Math-   We will continue our unit on two digit subtraction.  We will focus on regrouping and story problems next week.

Class Celebrations:   Allison  will celebrate her birthday over the Thanksgiving holiday! We hope your day is special Allison!

As we get ready for our Thanksgiving holiday, I just want to say Thank You for sending me your child everyday! I appreciate their bright smiles and willingness to learn!  They keep me on my toes and I enjoy watching them learn and grow!  Thanks for all the support you give at home!  I couldn't do it without your help and support!  Have a great holiday!

We had such a great week of learning! We were very busy and it seemed at the end of each day the kids were surprised it was "ALREADY time to go home!" Our Veteran's Day celebration was so much fun and it was wonderful to hear our second graders singing along with the 3-5 grade choir.

Reading Workshop-  We will continue our unit on nonfiction.  We will focus on paraphrasing what we read and not just copying straight from the text. We will also read nonfiction books on Thanksgiving and use the computers to research Thanksgiving.

Writing Workshop-  We will write a new ending to the story Turkey Trouble.  I love to read the ending the students come up with!

Science/ Social Studies-   We will start our unit on force and motion. We will even make our very own roller coasters!

Math-   We will begin our unit on two digit subtraction.  We will focus on just solving the math sentence and using subtraction in word problems.

Class Celebrations:  Tyler H.  is our Star of the Week!  Way to go Tyler! Allison  will celebrate her birthday over the Thanksgiving holiday! We hope your day is special Allison!

Have a great weekend!

What an amazing day we had today!   Our class used our "Colonial Money" to purchase items from the 13 Colonies today.  It was such a neat experience and the fifth graders did a fabulous job with their presentations.  It was also neat to see our second graders counting money and "shopping around" before they started spending their money!

Reading Workshop-  We will continue our unit on nonfiction. Ask your child about text features found in nonfiction books.  They should respond with headings, captions, photographs, diagrams, labels, maps. table of contents, glossary, and keywords to name a few.

Writing Workshop- Our monster writings are published and we will share them with the class next week.  We will also use our writing time to write a  thank you letter to the veterans that will visit our campus on Wednesday.

Science/ Social Studies-  We will continue to focus on objects in the sky.  We will also learn about Veteran's Day.

Math-   We will continue our unit on time.  We will focus on time to the minute.  We will also end the week starting our unit on two digit subtraction!

Class Celebrations:  Sophie is our Star of the Week!  Way to go Sophie! Caitlin will celebrate her birthday! We hope your day is special Caitlin!

Have a great weekend!
