We have started building bridges!  I sent a picture in SeeSaw of your child building their bridge today.  Make sure you take a look.  We have six groups and there are 3-4 students in each group.  This is a great time for them to collaborate and really work on teamwork. They will need to use ideas and suggestions from each person to help build their group bridge. So far, we are off to a great start!

We are going to present our bridges on Friday, November 4th at 8:00.  Please make plans to attend!

Here is our week of learning at a glance:

Reading Workshop-This week we will continue our unit on nonfiction texts.  This week we will focus on elections during our reading.  We do not discuss the  presidential candidates.  We approach it from  a kid's point of view.  We discuss platforms by reading the book, " Duck for President". We discuss the platforms of Duck and Farmer Mac and decide who we would vote for based on their platforms.  We discuss vocabulary, such as election, ballot, register, platform, and choice.  And next week , we will vote for two fictional candidates,  Thomas Toadmore and George McGuinnea.   We are even going to make campaign posters for the candidate of our choice!

Writing Workshop-    We will use our election material to help us during our writing workshop time.  We will write our own platforms and we will write, " If I were President......."

Science/ Social Studies-     This week in science we will continue our Project Based Learning project.  We will continue building our bridges and prepare for our presentation on Friday.

Math-   We shift back to two digit addition and subtraction using story problems.
