HI!

We were SO glad to see the sunshine today!  Being indoors this week sure was hard, so it was nice to go outside in the sunshine.  Next week, we will take our end of the year Math Benchmark. This test will cover all the skills we have learned this year in second grade.  We have reviewed skills all this week, such as time, money, and place value.  Next week we will cover measurement and problem solving. We will take the test on Wednesday and Thursday next week so please make sure your child eats a good breakfast and gets plenty of sleep.

I will begin to schedule parent teacher conferences. I will send out the SignUp Genius  soon!  I look forward to meeting with you to discuss your child's progress!

Reading Workshop-  We will begin our unit on folktales.  Next week we will look at the elements in fables.

Writing Workshop-  We look at the characteristics in folktales.  We will read several folktales and then we will begin writing our own folktales.

Math-    We will continue our review on skills and concepts and then we will take our math benchmark on Wednesday and Thursday.

Science- We will begin our unit on butterflies. We have 4 caterpillars in our room and we will observe the life cycle of a butterfly. Ask your child what they observed today! On Friday we will participate in Science Day. This is a full day of fun-filled science activities!

Class Brighteners- Congratulations to Carlos!  He is our Star of the Week!  Way to go Carlos!

Have a great weekend!

HI!

What a busy week of learning we have had!  We are busy working on our animal projects.  We should be ready to share all of our hard work by the end of the week or the beginning of next week,  April 18-20.  I will keep you posted on our progress by the middle of the week.

Our spring carnival is on Friday. If you have gift cards to donate for our class basket, please send it in with your child. I will make sure it gets placed in our basket.  Our school carnival is a great fundraiser for our school and it is always a ton of fun. Please make plans to attend.

Reading Workshop-  We will continue our animal research.  We are working on typing our information and then creating our project.  It is taking us a little longer to type :) since we are editing and adding pictures.

Writing Workshop-  We will work on expository writing.  We will also continue writing pieces to submit for Rising Star.

Math-    We will continue our unit on fractions.  We will focus on story problems involving fractions.

Science- We will continue our unit on animals.  We will focus on birds and insects next week.

Class Brighteners-Congratulations to Robert!  He is our Star of the Week! Taylor lost a tooth this week!  Congratulations to Taylor!

Have a great weekend!

HI!

What a great week of learning we have had!  We have started our animal research and are working on our projects.  If you have any shoe boxes, we need at least 7 of them!  Please send them in with your child!   Some of our friends are creating a diorama and will need a shoe box. Ask your child which project they are creating for their animal research.

Thanks to Ms. Withers for taking on the challenge of our class carnival basket If you sign up on Sign Up Genius, please  put your family name, item donating, and value in the comments so everyone can see what others are donating so there isn't duplication.  IE: Withers, Gap gift card, $20

Reading Workshop-  We will continue our animal research.  Many students are beginning their project this week.  Ask your child if they are creating a newspaper, slide show, diorama, or a poster.   We will share our projects with our families so be on the lookout for an e-mail!

Writing Workshop-  Next week we will use our writing to help us with our animal research. We will learn how to "take notes" and write facts using our own words. We will also use the laptops to help us type our information.

Math-   We will continue to work on three digit addition with regrouping!  We will take our assessment next week and then we will begin our unit on fractions.

Science- We will continue our unit on animals! We will focus on birds, insects, and then we will focus on how animals camouflage.

Class Brighteners-  We earned 10 compliments and celebrated with Show and Tell!

Have a great weekend!
