WOW!

I can't believe this is our final e-mail discussing our week of learning!  I am still amazed how fast this year has flown by!  It seems we were just reviewing basic addition and subtraction skills AND NOW your child is carrying and regrouping THREE digit numbers!  I also think about their reading and how many did not have any chapter books in their reading book boxes at the beginning of the year.   NOW, as a class, we read 470 chapter books since January!  AMAZING!

Thank you for letting me teach your child this year.    I am so glad I was a part of their learning. Thank you for supporting me at school.  I could not have done all of this without your help!

Reading Workshop-  We will continue our Reader's Theater.  We are working on reading our lines with fluency and we will begin creating our props!

Writing Workshop-  We will work on our second grade memory books. We will also write letters to first grade "preparing" them for next year!

Math-    We will get in summer mode by going into the ice cream selling business! We will have a budget to create our ice cream truck.  We will determine the price of each item we will sell, how much money we will make,  and we will create a slogan for our truck!

Science- We will wrap up our units on plants.

Class Brighteners-Congratulations to Elisa AND Sophie!  They are our  Stars  of the Week! Happy Birthday to Tyler H.!  We hope your day is special!  We earned 5 compliments so we are going to celebrate with Stuffed Animal Day!   Please have your child bring in a stuffed animal on  Wednesday next week!  It needs to fit in their backpacks please!

Mark Your Calendar- Our class party will be on Thursday at 1:30!  Hopefully we will present our plays on this day!  I will time how long it takes for all four groups to perform so the plays may need to begin a little earlier than 1:30. I will keep you posted.

Writing Workshop-  We will work publishing our fractured fairy tales and then we will work on our very last writing for second grade. It will be a personal narrative of their choice.

Math-    We will begin our unit on four digit place value.  We will work on numbers greater than 1,000.

Science/ Social Studies- We will complete our unit on plants and then begin our economics unit in social studies.

Hi!

We are ramping down our school year which is definitely bittersweet.  It is amazing to see how much everyone has grown, academically and socially,  and I can see the transition they are making to becoming successful third graders!  Thank you so much for your help and support at home!

On Friday, it's Field Day! This is a fun, crazy, day spent outside. Please make sure your child wears sunblock that morning and brings a towel, and an extra pair of dry clothing. This includes under garments, socks, AND dry shoes! Boys may wear swim trunks with a shirt, and girls may wear a one piece bathing suit with shorts.  Look for more information coming home from our fabulous PE teachers.

Reading Workshop-  We will continue our unit on fairy tales.  We will focus on myth and tall tales.

Writing Workshop-  We will work on writing personal narratives. We will really focus on conventions and spelling as we try to transition to "third grade" writers.  We will also use writing time to work on our own version of a favorite fairy tales.

Math-    We will begin our unit on FOUR digit place value.  We will work on standard form ( 2, 182), expanded form( 2,000 + 100 + 80+ 2)  and word form. (two thousand one hundred eighty two)

Science- We will continue our unit on plants.  We will focus on each plant part and its function.

Class Brighteners-Congratulations to Allison!  She is our Star of the Week! Happy Birthday to Sophie!  We hope your day was special! On Tuesday, we will have our Reading Challenge Celebration beginning at 8:00!  I am super proud of each reader for taking the challenge and reading chapter books!  It has bee amazing to see them find a variety of series that they enjoy. Their excitement was definitely contagious!   We will get our final book count tomorrow so please ask your child how many books they have read. Our goal was 15 but MANY students have read over 25 books!!!

Have a  great week!

HI!
I hope you had a great week!  Our class  has been busy learning new concepts daily!  This week we really focused on three digit subtraction with regrouping. This is a hard concept for second graders BUT you can help at home!  Give your child a few subtraction problems, such as 345-187, or 523-356.  Have them practice solving using the algorithm or base 10 blocks.

Reading Workshop-  We will continue our unit on fairy tales.  We will focus on legends and myths.

Writing Workshop-  We will work on writing personal narratives. We will really focus on conventions and spelling as we try to transition to "third grade" writers.

Math-    We will continue our three digit subtraction with regrouping.

Science- We will begin our unit on plants. This ties in perfectly with our unit on insects. Today we did a science experiment about pollination. Ask your child what happened when their "butterfly" stopped to drink nectar!

Class Brighteners-Congratulations to Christian!  He is our Star of the Week! Happy Birthday to Christopher.  We hope your day is special! Congratulations to Tyler B.  He lost a tooth today!
*** One of our butterflies emerged from its chrysalis today***Ask your child about it!
Have a great weekend!

HI!
I hope you had a great weekend! It is hard to believe it is already May!  Where has the time gone?  As we look toward next year, please make sure you fill out the Pink (for girls)/ or Blue (for boys) form to describe the type of learning environment that is best for your child.  You cannot request a specific teacher but you can describe your child and how they learn the best.  Just let me know if you need any help!  The forms are due this Friday, May 6!

We are taking our Reading and Writing Benchmark today and tomorrow.  Just make sure your child eats a good breakfast and gets plenty of rest.

Reading Workshop-  We will continue our unit on folktales  This week we will look at legends and the characteristics found in legends.

Writing Workshop-  We will work on writing our own fairy tales.  Since we are taking the benchmark test, we will work on these beginning on Wednesday.

Math-    We will begin our unit on three digit subtraction with regrouping!   This is a tough concept so it is important your child stays focused during our math lessons.  I think summer fever has hit early but we still have important concepts we are covering.

Science- We will continue our unit on butterflies!  Ask your child what our 5 caterpillars are up to these days!

Class Brighteners-Congratulations to Tyler H. !  He is our Star of the Week! He can bring in a Show and Tell to share with the class!

If you have not signed up for Parent Teacher conferences, please do so!  I look forward to sharing your child's progress with you!

Have a great week!
