We had a great week of learning!  This week we built our roller coasters! Ask your child about the roller coaster they built with their group.  We discussed problems our group encountered and how they had to alter their plans so that their marble could land in the cup.  We also completed our Motion Mission Observations using bubbles, pinwheels, race cars, bouncy balls, marbles, and spinning tops. Ask your child which station they liked the best and why?  Also ask them what force they used in order to make their favorite station work.

Reading Workshop-  We will continue our unit on nonfiction. This week we will focus on research involving Africa.  We are going to make brochures to share at our Literacy Night. Please make plans to attend on Thursday night from 5-7.  Second grade will have a room set up with our crafts and research on Africa.  Towards the end of the week we will begin our Holidays Around the World project.

Writing Workshop-  We will focus on nonfiction writing.  We will work on writing brochures, pamphlets, and flyers this week. This ties in perfectly with our research in Reading Workshop.

Science/ Social Studies-   We will begin our units on magnets next week. We will also focus on Holidays Around the World.

Math-   We will begin our unit on three digit place value.  We will focus on standard form, expanded form, word form, and using base ten blocks to build our number.

Class Celebrations-  Mae'Laisha celebrated her birthday this week!  Happy Birthday
Mae' Laisha! Robert lost a tooth!  Congratulations Robert!

Our Class Party-Ms. Withers organized a sign up Genius with materials we will need in order to make our party successful.  If you did not receive this e-mail, please let me know so I can send it to you.  I like to have stations during our party so we will definitely need parents to help set up the party AS WELL as work a station so the kids will know what to do and can get help if needed.   If you are able to help at our party, please let me know so I can forward that information to Ms. Withers.  Thanks for all your help and support!
