HI!  I hope you had a great week!  This week flew by but we were able to get a lot of material covered.  In science this week, we had a science demonstration using thermometers.  Ask your child what happened to the thermometer when they added 15 small ice cubes to their water! You can also ask them to tell you everything they know about reading a thermometer.

Reading Workshop-  We will continue our unit on poetry. This week we will focus on  sound poems and diamond poems.  Diamond poems focus on using nouns, verbs, and adjectives so we will include lessons on nouns, verbs, and adjectives.

Writing Workshop-  We published our first poem!  Ask your child to tell you about the poem they wrote this week.

Math-   We will continue  our unit on geometry.  This week we will look at combining shapes to make new shapes and we will begin our unit on 3-D shapes.  Your child should have a good grasp of the vocabulary we have used this week.  Please ask your child to tell you what the following words mean:
*polygon- a closed shape with straight lines
*pentagon- a shape with 5 sides,
*hexagon- a shape with 6 sides
* quadrilateral- a shape with 4 sides

You could even have them draw the shapes.

Science- We will continue our unit on the water cycle.

Social Studies-  Towards the end of the week, we will begin our unit on Past, Present, and Future.  Please have your child bring in a baby picture in a zip lock bag. Your child's name should be written on the back.  Make sure you tell them NOT to show their friends.   We are  going to try to guess each other's baby picture and then discuss we have changed.

Class Brighteners- Congratulations to Taylor!  She is our Star of the Week!  Our class has really taken off with their reading!  It is so exciting to see them so engaged in good chapter books!

Have a great weekend!

Mrs. King
