Wow!  What a busy, short week!   I was excited to hear all the wonderful things they had to share about their holiday.   It was a great way to start off the New Year!

I sent home their new homework today.  It will need to be turned in Friday, January 19.   In third grade, homework is included in their overall grade average.  This is a great time to start teaching about responsibility.

Here is our week of learning at a glance:

Reading Workshop- We will focus on biographies.  This week we will focus on finding specific information in biographies such as special achievements/ important versus interesting facts, and reading timelines to understand a person's life.

Writing Workshop-  We wrote letters to our pen pals and they were super excited!  Ask your child about their pen pal!  This week in writing we will focus on writing and publishing a personal narrative.

Math-   We will focus on area this week.  We will learn that area is measured in square units and we can find the area of  squares and rectangles.

Science- This week we will continue to focus on identifying and comparing  natural and man made resources.  We will also discuss seasons towards the end of the week.

Class Brigheners-  We would like to say Congratulations to Bradley! He is our Star of the Week!  We also want to say Congratulations to Sophie, Zaiden, and AJ!  They all lost a tooth over the holiday! We wanted to wish Ella  a  Happy Birthday!  We hope your day was special!

I hope you have a great three day weekend!
