Hi!

We are ramping down our school year which is definitely bittersweet.  It is amazing to see how much everyone has grown, academically and socially,  and I can see the transition they are making to becoming successful third graders!  Thank you so much for your help and support at home!

On Friday, it's Field Day! This is a fun, crazy, day spent outside. Please make sure your child wears sunblock that morning and brings a towel, and an extra pair of dry clothing. This includes under garments, socks, AND dry shoes! Boys may wear swim trunks with a shirt, and girls may wear a one piece bathing suit with shorts.  Look for more information coming home from our fabulous PE teachers.

Reading Workshop-  We will continue our unit on fairy tales.  We will focus on myth and tall tales.

Writing Workshop-  We will work on writing personal narratives. We will really focus on conventions and spelling as we try to transition to "third grade" writers.  We will also use writing time to work on our own version of a favorite fairy tales.

Math-    We will begin our unit on FOUR digit place value.  We will work on standard form ( 2, 182), expanded form( 2,000 + 100 + 80+ 2)  and word form. (two thousand one hundred eighty two)

Science- We will continue our unit on plants.  We will focus on each plant part and its function.

Class Brighteners-Congratulations to Allison!  She is our Star of the Week! Happy Birthday to Sophie!  We hope your day was special! On Tuesday, we will have our Reading Challenge Celebration beginning at 8:00!  I am super proud of each reader for taking the challenge and reading chapter books!  It has bee amazing to see them find a variety of series that they enjoy. Their excitement was definitely contagious!   We will get our final book count tomorrow so please ask your child how many books they have read. Our goal was 15 but MANY students have read over 25 books!!!

Have a  great week!
